Nickről annyit érdemes tudni, hogy Ausztráliában született teljesen egészségesen - csak épp kezek és lábak nélkül. A combjából csupán két kis ujjacska nő ki, amiknek köszönhetően Nick megtanult írni és gépelni. A szerb bevándorlók első gyerekeként napvilágot látott kisfiút természetesen rengeteget csúfolták kiskorában, hiszen nagyon más volt, mint a többiek. Egy ideig még normális iskolába sem járhatott az állapota miatt, noha felfogása kitűnő, sőt: kimondottan intelligens, jóagyú gyerek volt, aki kevés tanulással is kiváló jegyeket szerzett.
Bár elsőre nehéz elképzelni, hogyan, Nick mégis teljes életet él: úszik, csúszdázik, sportol, dolgozik, és van egy csodaszép felesége, akivel nagyon szeretik egymást, hamarosan gyerekeket is szeretnének. "Eleinte szomorú voltam, hogy nincsenek kezeim, amelyekkel megsimogathatnám a feleségemet, megfoghatnám a kezét. De aztán rájöttem, hogy megérinthetem a szívét, ugyanúgy, mint bárki más. És így mindketten boldogok vagyunk...
